So I got an archery elk tag in September which will also be open season for grouse. I have never even attempted this before but I do frequently see grouse up in this area so I figured maybe id carry a bird arrow in my quiver. So my bow is a hoyt charger, 70 pounds, with a QAD ultra rest. Should I just use a stump arrow that I do not care if I lose, or should I get a flu flu? I see there are a few "bird broadheads", do they fly straight? What do you guys think?

I carry a normal arrow with a judo point. reality is a rarely shoot a bird as I'm too busy elk hunting, but I have shot several. I've learned to not shoot if they are up in a tree, as arrow will get stuck in tree. Fluflus are big to pack and shoot a bit different than normal fletched arrows. good luck

I carry an arrow that I'm not afraid to loose with an old broadhead (sharpened of course). On this arrow put some bright fletching or cresting on the shaft. Makes it easier to look for in the grass/bushes.

Old broadheads, and old arrows. Wouldn't spend money as most shots tend to be 5-15 yards.

I always have a SGH or Judo with me, if for nothing else to stump shoot or just take a practice shot now and then...It doesn't take much to kill a grouse and they take great!

Just like everything with bow hunting, practice with what you carry and make sure your bow and arrows are tuned...

The day after my tag soup Elk hunt ended, I put my compound away and got out my ol reliable ben pearson recurve with wood arrows tipped with empty 357 brass hot glued on the cedar. Those 2 ruffs tasted alot better than the tag soup.

Nice grouse man! I kicked some up one evening, I was sure tempted to take one or two but I wasn't gonna lose a gr reaper broadheads over it, LOL.

Judo heads are awesome for grouse. I've taken many grouse while elk hunting. It's a ton of fun and not a bad way to add a little protein to dinner. My tips...up in tree shots aren't worth the risk (pass though, miss, etc. especially if there's not much of a backdrop to stop an arrow). Also, consider putting a different colored fletch on the judo arrow, just to make it less likely you would ever grab it accidentally.
