So I went out to shoot tonight. My mind was wandering and I pulled back the bow without an arrow and shot it! String came off and peep blew out. I'm shooting a pse rally. Took it to the shop. They strung it up and put a new peep on. They said it looked fine. Shot it when I got home and was fine. My concern is that it is now just a matter of time before the limbs break, like right during my elk hunt. I am very new to archery. Have any of you guys dry fired a bow and had it work fine for a long time afterwards. Thanks.

This year I'm using a 20 year old Hoyt Provantage that had been dry fired at least 3 times, bounced around in back of numerous pickups, fell off the roof of a car going 30 miles an hour, and been dropped when hiking more times than I'd like to admit. Modern bows can take a fair amount of abuse. If the shop says it is OK I'd think you will be fine.

You should be fine. Had a nock break on my last bow and essentially dry fired it and had no problems. Had a string break at full draw on a bow before that and it was fine too. I have broke a limb before, way back. I was shooting super light arrows going for speed before I knew better. That poor bow was abused and finally broke a limb. As long as you don't do it everyday you should be fine.

just keep an eye on the limbs especially near the cams and the limb pocket, i managed an archery shop for awhile, and those are the 2 places it will start. if you see hairline fractures or slivering near those 2 places i would hold off on shooting it alot. the newer bows are more aggressive on the limbs so they cant be dry fired more than once or possibly twice. but you should be alright for your hunt this year at least.
