Well, I went out and got a new bow. Looking for a good arrow to match up with it. I bought a Hoyt Power Max. 30" draw. 70 lb.

I've been shooting Radial X weave out of my old PSE Diablo. But I'd like to make a change.

What's the best arrow? Gold Tip? FMJ?

I do have a brown bear hunt coming up in May, so I'd like an arrow that will perform well on a critter as big as an Alaskan Brown bear.

With your draw length and draw weight it doesn't matter. Just don't go with an ultra light arrow and you'll be fine. Your going to have over 80 ft lbs of KE and with one of the slightly heavier arrows more than enough momentum to kill anything in North America.

Something like the Gold Tip Kinetic's with the g-nock inserts would be perfect for your set up.

Cheers,
Pete

FMJ is the way to go. I used to shoot Carbon Express Maximas and in my set up the FMJ shot a little better. Slower, but more consistent. I don't think the elk would have noticed the difference either way though. Both are great arrows IMO.

Another vote for 300 FMJ's. I'd use Firenocks 150 grain stainless steel half outs inserts to get my desired FOC and added weight for brown bear. It's a great set up for Elk as well.

Plus another for FMJs. Especially for a brown bear. Throw some weight on the front end to get a high FOC and add to the OAW.
On a big thick animal, KE is great, but momentum key.

Your shots will be close, you don't need accuracy to 60 yds. Go buy some different arrows and shoot a cinder block and plywood at 20 yds. When the only ones you have left are the Axis and FMJ( providing the FMJ didn't bend), go buy an assortment of broadheads and do the same. Broadhead choice will be much more important IMO.

Thanks for the replies.

I ended up getting the Easton Axis. 340. Been shooting circle league for a couple weeks now. They are damn accurate.

Can't wait to send one into a giant Brown bear. Maybe 2 if I'm lucky.
