Haven't posted anything for a long time here, but I wanted to get some opinions and info if I could. I quit bowhunting about 14 years ago and now I'm wanting to get back into it. I'm debating on getting a whole new bow and setup or just sticking with my 16 year old PSE thunderbolt. I shot it a couple years ago just to see if I could hit the target and it was like I never quit, but I do need new arrows and broadheads for sure. After looking at all the new stuff out today, I feel like I have an antique for a bow, but my bow was well maintained, tuned and everything on it is in really good condition, so what should I do? Any info I can get from you guys, from bows to arrows and broadheads (for deer and elk), would be appreciated, thanks.

Welcome back! I was in the same boat, leaving the archery world for six years and hunting with a muzzleloader. I just started again this year I bought a whole new setup from bow arrows rest quiver the whole nine yards. I feel like bowhunting is so tough any advantage you can gain will help you. The newer bows are faster, quieter, and more accurate than ever. So to me those are easy upgrades. You can't go wrong with any of the top three manufacturers out there Hoyt, Bowtech or Mathews. As far as arrows go lots of good ones out there, depending on what your looking for. I like the Easton FMJ deep six, a little heavy but penetrate better than any other shaft on the market. Broadheads your in the same boat as shafts, lots of good choices I personally like the slick tricks, great flight and performance on game. Good luck on your quest lots of choices out there, just choose the gear that best performs for your hunting style, and the game you plan on pursuing.

A 16 year old PSE verses what is out now... Yes, upgrade.

I'd look at a 1-3 year old used Hoyt. You'll save a ton of cash and have a cutting edge bow. Not much difference between what they are putting out this year and what they put out a couple years ago. Big difference from 16yrs ago though for sure.

Thanks guys, yeah Forkwest more than likely I will just get a new bow, I thought about getting a used but being a lefty and trying to find a used left hand bow will probably be tough, but you never know. Thanks again

Welcome back sounds like your looking in the right direction. Upgrading to the newer technology bows as well as arrows with 2" Blazers are a whole different world that what was available 10 years ago. If it fits your pocket book go to a quality archery shop...not the big box stores and shoot all the top brands to get the feel and personal service of a direct dealer....then chose what is comfortable an smooth draw....upgrade to those FMJ's with 2"Blazers and those Slick Tricks or G-5 Strikers and you will have a hard hitting setup that your new aerodynamic arrows and Broadheads will shoot 8" higher at 50yds than the older technology arrows......add a BlackGold 5pin sight (best low light conditions sight on the market IMO) and will be dialed in..?
Good Hunting

try archerytalk.com a lot of guys over there buy a new bow every year or two, you can get some great deals on bows. if I remember right, they have a classified section devoted to left handers. I've bought many bows off that site without any problems, just check the feedback on who your buying from and you'll be ok
