Hi all, I have a question considering arrows.
I shoot a Darton Bow I have both 60 and 70 # limbs (so I can use either one, I would have to start out lower at first, it's been several years since I bow hunted) and I use a whisker biscquit, and I like the twist vanes they seem to group very well for me and I use G5 Montec 3 blade 125 gr tips . So my question is what arrow brand, weight, etc would be best for elk hunting, etc
Something I forgot to mention and is the most important part is to be able to shoot longer distances.

Thanks for your time
Joe

If you answer these questions, I will run it thru my software and get you real close.

What year and model darton is it?

What is your draw length?

you say you are going to start low poundage, does that mean 60 lbs?

3blade I'll find out the info on my bow etc, and let you know ASAP. Thanks to all for your help and suggestions

264mag are the broad heads you speak of fixed or expandables? I've always been afraid of the expandables but it's properly unfounded. I like to worry to much about nothing. Lol!

Joe ,the rage is expandable and there is a lot of pros and cons with this broad head.I am thinking of trying the Magnus broad head, heard that it has good flight and great penetration.

264, you talking about the Black Hornet? I've shot the stingers for years and they have never let me down. That Hornet though looks like a damn good head.

3blade not sure about that hornet ,I just was recommended about the 2 blade, but that could be the one your talking about.

Joe,

Check out the Easton FMJ's, Its a carbon arrow with an aluminum sleeve. Slim in diameter, very fast and hard hitting!

I shoot the G-5 Stryker's in 100 grain from my 60# Bear Effect and they shoot just like my field tips, so little to no adjusting from target practice to hunting.

Arrow wise we all shoot the Easton FMJ340 at 11gr. Per inch 560gr. Total arrow weight ..hits like a magnum rifle....total pass through at 40yds.....shoot those and you will never use anything else..pricy but worth every penny.....still use same for practice arrows 8 yrs old good as new....2 inch Blazers max helical....dialed in to 70yds....

Lots of good quality arrows available today. I'd look into heavier arrow for hunting, and focus on the tightest tolerance arrows you can afford.

If longer range accuracy is a truly a concern, I'd also seriously consider ditching the Whisker Biscuit in favor of a drop-away rest.

Thanks left, your right on about the whisker biscuit. I also want to prepare for the longer distances, it makes the closer shots a lot easier.

Thanks for your advice

Hey left, are you applying in any other states this year?

I agree, the more you practice with different scenarios, the easier it will be in the field. Not just longer range practice, but kneeling, sitting, angles, etc.

Nah, can only afford resident hunts right now. Unless I fail to draw anything, then I might consider an OTC hunt somewhere...got a new bow that I'm eager to break in properly.
