I'm looking at the Option sight for a trip to Colorado this fall first week of the season. I'll be shooting a new Mathews Halon bow but am looking into the Option Sight. What are you using or would recommend? Anyone using this sight?

LAST EDITED ON Apr-05-17 AT 02:29PM (MST)[p]I recently upgraded my sight as well. I shot a fixed 6 pin but wanted to extend my range for practice. I decided to go with the MBG Ascent Verdict in the 3-pin. So far, I'm loving this sight. Really reduced pin clutter, and I basically have a fixed sight good to 40ish which is perfect for my style of hunting and comfort. The pins are super bright and the construction is top notch. If I were to have gone a different route, it would have been Spot Hogg, they are just heavier.

EDIT: The verdict is a slider. So pick a pin you want to use as a rover, and you can dial that pin into the exact yardage. Most use their bottom pin, I'm using the middle pin as my rover so that I have a top and bottom reference.

I was tempted by the Option, but there were a few things I didn't like: 1. That pivoting head on a sight - I'm rough on gear and don't want to have something fail. 2. Pins - tubed pins are delicate, again rough on gear. Also heard complaints about pin brightness. 3. Price - couldn't justify it.

Through all my research, I'd recommend either a MBG or Spot Hogg. I also came across a lot of good reviews for HHA and CBE. Good luck out there!

Our family shot the BlackGold 5 pin for years best fiber optics for low light conditions , dark timber, on the market..period...We just upgraded to the BlackGold PURE..it is a 5 pin adjustable.....You sight in to sixty yds and the archery shop shoots the arrow through a chronograph gets the feet per second, weighs the arrow etc. a computer program calculates the arrow flight and provides a printed graph from base line 60yds out to 100yds you use the last pin and turn the wheel pointer to dial in the range past 60yds. Say you range an animal at 76yds you turn the wheel arrow pointer to 76yds on the graph and you are dialed in perfectly to your range....using your last pin fricken high tech awesome..

Trophyhunter-I hadn't read much ont he BlackGold PURE. That sounds exactly like what I've been looking for. I shoot the React Pro 5 pin and really like, but having that flexibility would be awesome.

Look at iq sights. Not for the 3rd anchor point, but for their 3 pin sight with a Independent floater.

I went with one of these last year and the fact that only the floater pin moves is what sold it for me. Best of both worlds of a slider and 2 pins that are always the same. Mines 35 40 then the slider.

trophyhunter, I have so many questions.
What state do you live in? I don't think we have anything like that at our Bow shop. Although I haven't
been lately.
What do you do for shots 0-59 yards?
What is the poundage of your bow to get out to 100 yards?

Thanks for your time
Joe

I live in San Francisco Bay Area, Archery Only is our local archery shop . You guys need to call around and find an archery shop the has a Chronograph to get the ft/sec. and has the computer program to calculate the arrow fight out past 60-100 Yds....Its BadAss...high tech method. Once they weigh the arrow calculate Ft/sec. they set up everything perfect out to 100 yds.
Archery Only, 1-510-795-0460 the owner Wayne is a big hunter, he custom orderd us his setup. Blackgold Pure 5 pin. Top two green, third pin red, fourth and fifth pin green in smaller diamiter size so at longer ranges pins don't cover up game as much.....you range and dial the last pin to your exact yardage...BadAss.....worth a plane ticket to these guys if you cant find a closer shop.....order the custom sight and set an appointment....closed Sundays M-F 11:00-7:00pm Sat. 11:00-5pm

Good Luck have a good time hunting Guys...

Question 0-59 yds you sight in and use the 5 pins like normal pin 1=20yds , pin 2=30yds pin 3 =40yds pin5= 50yds pin6= 60yds out past 60yds the last bottom pin becomes the floater....
Check out the PURE at BlackGold.com made in Montana , USA

I had the custom tape done by my shop for my MBG Ascent Verdict as well.

However, it is not necessarily guaranteed to work out, but it gets you pretty damn close. The good thing is you can shoot the various yardages to verify, and print slightly adjusted tapes from the suggested calcs.

In my case, I was shooting 2 tapes flatter than what the program/measurements added up to...which is a plus in my book.

Yeh I agree its close but when I shoot out past 80 yds there are so many things that come into play, release, follow thru, wrist...I dont think I would shoot at a deer out past 80yds mine is pretty dead on out to 80yds...

I hear ya, but mine was off beyond 40 yards. At 80 it was hitting significantly high by the calculated tape. However, a simple tape change put it dead on.
