Re: Range Finder

Has anyone ever heard of people using your binos for a range finder at a 3D shoot?
Using a range finder is a No No at a 3D shoot in our area. I've heard some guys put a mark on the adjustment wheel at a certain yardage and then adjust accordingly. I'm not that into 3D shoots and I don't need to win that bad, but I wonder would that work in a hunting situation, instead of trying to get a good look at an animal and trying to range him at the same time. I know there's binos that have built in range finders.

What are your thoughts?

We do more archery these days than rifle but we already have the range finders so We will use those Leupold out to 1200yds...Already spent a small fortune on gear.....not hitting for binoculars with built in range finder.....plus we do backcountry weight, size is an issue, we use small Stiener, Predator series bino's 10X26...

Goodluck what ever you choose is best for you and your method of hunting.

The other thing is we spot a deer glassing and check him out we dont need to know the range until ready to drop the hammer...

Yeah I have used binos as a range finder before. It works well at close distances, but it is no where near as fast or as accurate as modern rangefinders which you can pull up, hit a button, you know the exact distance, pull back the string and let it fly. Now, to illustrate with binos, you pull up, adjust focus, look down at binos to see mark, you know an approximate distance, pull back the string and let it fly.

IMO its just a method that the sleeze bags came up with at 3d shoots to try and cheat their way to the top. If I had to choose between the two, I would carry a decent range finder instead of binoculars.
