whats the best arrows for elk? thinking of easton injections, gold tip kenetics or victory vap. whats your expierences?

I shot vaps last year (missed an elk). I was shooting full length 250 spine with firenock outserts and 125 Head. I tried stainless steel in/outserts that victory sells.Broke my first dozen very quick. Most broke right behind the insert before I switched to the firenock outserts. To get my foc over 12% my arrow weight 550 gr. I dropped like a rock.

I just recently picked up victory?s Rip XV with the AL shock in/outsert and I have been pretty happy with them and will use them this fall.

I have full length 300 spine with 125 head and they come in at pretty close to 400 gr. I plan to only use a fixed head so I am happy with 400 gr with high foc at 300fps.

They are shooting great and the AL in/outserts have held up much better than the SS. I was planning to buy more firenock outserts but probably won't now.

Love my Easton full metal jackets. I shoot the 400 spine with a 100 grain G5 dead meat head out of a 72 pound Bowtech BTX and they fly like darts. Tons of penetration and kinetic energy.

I switched after I wasn't getting pass throughs with my gold tip hunters out of a Mathews switchback xt and I have yet to not get a pass through on 4 whitetails, and 2 mule deer.

Thanks for the advise guys. My set up is a bow tech insanity at 73lbs, shooting 28? xt hunters at 315fps. my worry with switching to these heavier arrows is that my draw length is so short that I'm basically cutting the arrow in half and on top of that, I'm worried about speed but maybe I'll make up for it in kinetic energy??

....fmj are good and a lot of people like them, but they can bend. Just something to keep in mind. (Take a fall 8-10 miles in, and end up with a quiver full of bent arrows is possible) .... Easton axis is great. BE rampage if you want more FOC.... there are lots of other great shafts out there as well, those are just the first 2 I thought of.

Don?t worry about speed as much, IMO. (260+ FPS is sufficient.) I would look for a total arrow weight of 450 gr or more (personally I like 500 gr +). Screw a good fixed blade BH on there and you'll be good to go.
