Is it possible for a white to have raw walrus ivory? I have heard it has to be stamped, but not sure any help in this matter would be helpful. I am looking to do some carving on something a little nicer than antlers. Thank you guys and happy fishing and hunting.

I don't know. A couple years ago I met a native up in Alaska who was a carver. He had some raw walrus ivory. I offered to buy one (just because I thought they were so cool looking). He said it was illegal for him to sell unless it was carved or had some scrimshaw etched into it. How accurate that information is I can't say.

Yes, a white man can have ivory. The difficulty is obtaining it. To sell ivory it must be scrimshawed (carved). Otherwise you have to go find your own and take it to fish and game for the stamp. Typically to find ivory you fly the beaches along the Alaska Peninsula or elsewhere until you find a dead one, land, and begin the work. Bring lots of garbage bags and rain gear that you are willing to toss. There may be some raw tusks for sell legally, but I suspect they are quite expensive.
