Hi Ed,
I have some friends that did a outfitted hunt in that area in 2005. They did well on caribou but only took one moose for six hunters. They had a boat on a large lake . They saw a lot of grizzly bears but didn't have any problems with them. I can't say which lake they were on.
I did a DIY hunt in NE AK in 2003.Me and one friend floated a river for 100 river miles. It was a caribou/moose combo hunt.We killed two moose a 51" and a 65". We had a great time and enjoyed seeing all the great country! We seen a lot of caribou but they were either to far away or disappeared into the timber before we could shoot. Our float started in the Brooks Range, treeless and open, and ended about 60 miles south in flat timbered country.
We were on the river 11 days and had to spend about 6 to 8 hours a day floating.
It was a great hunt but very expensive to go that far up. 6700.00 just for the air taxi from Fairbanks to our drop off and back with our game.I hope to do it again someday but will have to save up for awhile. I hope you have a succesful and safe hunt!
