kind of a little off base for a hunting web site, but I'm going on a caribou hunt in the nwt in sept. outfitter says there's good lake trout fishing from the bank. Any suggestions on lures to take???????

going to the north west territories, couragous lake,(shoshone wilderness outfitters.)

i've used hammered nickle spoons with single hooks as my best success on lakers here in alaska. guided for them for six years and it never failed, about 2 3/4" i'd say they were, single hooks make them get a better hookset and a little bit weedless.
good luck

I went to Courageous Lake in 2005 and had an awesome trip. We did some fishing after we had our caribou down but didn't fish from the shore, just trolled. They supplied the fishing gear which left to be desired. We used spoons of varying color: 5 of diamonds, hammered nickel, and red/white strip all of which worked. The fishing was great and you can catch lakers until your arms are about to fall off. If your a fly fisherman take your fly rod and fish some of the creeks for grayling. I'm not much of a fly fisherman but watched some of the other guys catch 16-19" grayling.

As for the hunting it was great. The first couple of days where slow but on day three we just hammered the caribou. Everyone in camp filled there tag the week we where there. Dad and I both shot 2 bou each. The largest caribou shot the week we where there was a 390" bull and the second largest my first bull was a 363". We did see three wolves but never had a shot and one guy in camp shot a wolverine. As for the guides I liked them all but really enjoyed having one of the Eskimo natives they really know their stuff. Hope your trip is as good of an experience as ours.
