CF:

Is this your first trip, and who are you booked with?

YD:

I am ready for base camp BIG TIME! I will get some cipro from my doctor along with a epi pen. Hopefully there won't be too many bees. I am allergic so I figured better safe then sorry.
Gear wise I am good to go.

Man its hard to sleep at night!

Yes this is my first time for a Dall. I already have my desert. Going with Ram Head Outfitters / Stan Simpson. How about you.

Max Schwab out of Talkeetna. Small outfitter that takes about 6-8 sheep hunters out per year. He hunts 20a, the Wood River area.
Not an area for monsters, but it does put out some beautiful rams. I have heard good things about your outfitter. Good luck, and take lots of pictures.

you will have a great time with stan...he kills some great rams there every year. I guided for him for a few years about 20 years ago...hope you are not afraid of flying, because he will try to land his plane on a ants ass if he thinks the wind is right, and most times he will stick it...lol
trust me...you will have the time of your life...

Confirm before arival that your guide is not a first timer and scared of the Alaskan wilderness. My Experience was pathetic.

The outfitter was Alaskan Mountain Safaris in the Wrangell Mountains. He is a Master Guide with a ton of experience and happens to be the Executive Director of the Alaska Professional Hunters Association. The problem was that not a person in the camp had ever been there before, ever guided before or basically even had a clue. My guide had never even seen a Dall's sheep before. I asked for a refund after the hunt but of course never got one. Really soured me on guided hunts.

Awesome country, probably would have been a great hunt if any of his old guides or staff had been there. But they all quit, he forgot to mention that until we arrived in base camp.

Buyer beware.

Research research research, time well spent to pick a guide. I am booked with Braun Kopsak, AK, my countdown has 51 more month!

I would not book unless I found, on my own, 3 references so I know I got an honest opinion. I also called local bowhunting clubs and check the BBB. I also found local hunters who were SERIOUS, they know who is good ask them.

Here is my question list:

Yukon,

I will shoot straight, but why should I watch my back?
Are you going to be in camp? lol

I leave on a red eye flight out of Seatac this Monday at 10:30 pm, and arrive in Fraibanks at 1:30 am. I will try to catch a cat nap, and catch my shuttle to Healy. From there its the super cub flight to sheep camp! With a little luck, I will come home with a decent ram. Looking forward to the adventure!
