Dall Ram Hunt Report From Falcon

I just got back on Wed night from my Alaska hunt out of Healy.
We flew in 3 days before the hunt, backpacked into the high country, and had the hunt of a lifetime. I was able to take a beautiful 9 year old ram on the opener. He was in a band of 18 rams. My guide ranged him at 420 yards, and after alot of heavy breathing and a quick prayer, I squeezed off a shot aimed at the top of his shoulder. I hit him right smack in the heart.
The ram horns were sealed in Fairbanks and had the following measurements.

Right: 37.5" 13.25 base
Left: 38" 13.5 base
9 years old

God must have been in the plan, beacuse I don't think I can shoot that far! lol

Thanks for all the support!

Bryan

ps I tried sending pics. If anyone will post them, let me know.

Sounds like you had a trip of a lifetime. I remember when you first booked your hunt. A long wait but worth it. Sounds like you had a great hunt. Can't wait for pictures. Who did you go with? How physical was your hunt?

Falcon,

Congrats, on a very nice ram. I pulled your pic from the AKoutdoor site since I didn't see it posted here.

I remember it like it was yesterday. Living on the island makes it hard to scout any of the open areas. I keep waiting for one of the draw tags, which have a little higher chance of success. Hopefully next year I'll be able to hunt the white rams again.
Congrats again, that high you're feeling will take a long time to wear off.

Congrats man!!! awesome ram!! Glad you had a wonderful trip. Cant wait to see some more pictures!!

Falcon,

Savor the feeling. Your feet will not touch the ground for months. Incredble and huge congratulations. Looks like he rolled a little bit in the rocks.

Falcon, how was the weather? I am leaving for healy on the 28th for my sheep hunt. Just wondering if I'm going to freeze up there on top of the mountain. Also was there any smoke in the area?

I lucked out on the Weather. It was nice for 5 days in a row. We were camped just below the 4,000 ft level. It froze just above camp one night. No forest fires at that time.

Good luck on your hunt!

Thanks, I can't wait to get up there! if you dont mind me asking, who was the outfitter you were with, and would you go again with them. I will be with Castle Rock Outfitters out of Healy. Hopefully it should be a great experience.

my hunt was not as productive as falcon's as far as the trophy goes but i had a great time outfitter and guides all worked hard and were first rate just not very many legal rams in your area and the wolves had all the sheep very high. we got one ram for the four hunters. with one other stalk on a legal ram that the ram just dissappeared as only sheep can. would do it all over with the same guys.

Falcon, Great ram congrats man. I'll bet you wont forget about that hunt any time soon.

Falcon, congrats!! Isnt it funny how many sheep pics look like the ground is flat? I guess it usually is.....when they stop rolling

Great job nice ram! Who did you sheep hunters go with? I am booked with Braun for 2011, not sure what new draw is going to do to my hunt though.
