hey all,

i just thought i would share a couple pics of me and my family with a bunch of silvers we caught over the weekend. without doubt, silver salmon are the easiest to catch, so they are the ideal salmon for me to chase with my wife and kids along!

oh yeah, i forgot that there is one red salmon in the lower photo!

berto, you're killin' me!:) Where is that?

I once took a trip up to the Kenai just for Silvers (and Pinks that year). It was fun because most of the crowd was gone. That's when I really fell in love with Alaska.

Thanks for sharing. I really enjoy!

eel,

sorry, but i cannot say where that is. although it is far from secret, it is ideal for my wife and kids. it is the only place i have found here that is not shoulder to shoulder with people who are frantically beating the water to a froth just to catch a lousy salmon! did i just say "lousy salmon"? yes i did because i prefer eating halibut and warm water species like perch, pike and walleye. :) I keep a few salmon only because my wife likes to eat them and i have friends in MT that have asked that i bring them salmon when i visit this fall.

speaking of silvers in the kenai, a friend of mine fished the kenai over the weekend with his wife's family who are here visiting from out of state. they landed only one silver in a day of fishing the river, but a couple of the scoundrels also took a full-day charter and brought home 60 fabulous pounds of halibut meat! now THAT is something i envy :)

Aaron,

Great pictures and good looking stringers of Silvers. My wife and I fished with a friend back in 1984 out in Prince William Sound, those Silvers will "dance" on the water had a blast then.
Sure miss it too, maybe some day will get back up there.

Glad to see you are having a great time up there, give my regards to the family, they sure are growing up fast.

hi brian,

i was on a charter last week in PWS, but targeted halibut instead of silvers...it was so calm and sunny that day it was amazing how you could watch the pinks frolic and see occassional schools of silvers swim by all day long.

i will pass on your well wishes to my family. today is first day of school up here so it's been a busy morning trying to get the kiddos back on a schedule! All the daylight during these AK summer days sure knocks them off a typical sleep pattern :)

take care

berto, I understand about keeping your spot "secret". The year I fished the Kenai, I landed over 100 fish in 3 days. That was with a guide in his boat though. Our best day was on the Kasilof. I even caught a 35 pound King (the season was closed so we released it). I usually get seasick on the salt water, but I share your love of Halibut. The guide I fish with up there always gives me a 50lb. box of fillets to bring home.

Our plan is to go up next summer. Save a few for me!

Are you doing any hunting this year?

Eel

eel,

that's alotta silvers...they fight well, too. sounds like you had a great time!

i am also prone to seasickness, but nothing a non-drowsy dramamine tablet or two can't cure :)

I promise to save enough silvers for you and everyone else, including me, to catch next year.

no hunting here for me this year, but i am already planning my frist dall sheep hunt :) i cannot afford the non-res tag fees. buying the non res fishing license and full-season king stamp 'bout kilt me off as it is!

berto, those 100 fish were not all Silvers. About half of them were Pinks. But it was a good run that year.

Stay in touch! Especially on that sheep hunt!
