AK sheep draw

JR, F&G say the end of Jan to Early Feb 09.

Good luck, I know I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Holy sh*%! I have never put in for sheep in Alaska before and for the hell of it gave it a shot this year, with about an hour to go before the deadline (which I never do) and drew a DS139 tag. What am I in for?

LAST EDITED ON Feb-07-09 AT 01:49PM (MST)[p]First of all, you are one lucky bas%$@d.

I have yet to get a sheep tag - EVER!!!

I presume that you are a NR and are thus required to use a guide for the species, unless you have a first-of-kin blood relative to hunt with.

I'd start by checking out the unit. Use this link:

Sumbitch, just looked at it. I think you overlapped my first choice which was DS124.

Road acess. Albiet, you'll have a good hike to get back into 'em. Late hunt could mean some snow. All of Unit 14C is pretty damn good.

I'd go begging for info on 24hrcampfire in the Alaska forum and on the Alaska Outdoor Forums big game hunting section. I'm not from the greater Anchorage area, so I'm not going to be much help on the hunt specifics. Get a good, reputable guide.

I didn't draw anything, but my son drew DS165. I can hopefully help him take his ram.

Good luck to all who drew.

This is a late season tag that allows you to hunt a large area depending on where the rams are. Your guide should know the area and you have a great chance at a big sheep. Get in shape as the Chugach mountains are steep.

When you put in for the draws as a non-resident i know you have to have a guide.Do you have to have a guide already to put in or can you get one after you draw?

DS139 is an excellent tag.

get ready to drain your bank account (guide fee) and i hope your hiking boots are broken in and you are in tip top shape!

once in a lifetime hunt, so make it count.

of course, you could turn your tag in to ADF&G and i could be the alternate...;-)

Fullcry-i didn't need to have a guide actually booked before I applied but now that I drew I need one if I want to hunt. Luckily the Hunt Expo was in town last weekend, and I was able to visit with my outfitter in person. If season opened tomorrow I would be ready, but I have another 219 days to ensure that I am. I have heard it is a great tag and plan on making the most of it. Like you said Berto, it is a once in a lifetime deal.

Hey,that worked out all the way around for you.I hope you get a monster.I will be putting in this next year and dont know any body up there to be my guide.Who did you go with? You can PM me if you want...

I booked with Lance Kronberger. A buddy of mine drew an archery tag there for a little earlier in the month and he is also going with Lance. Good luck next year, I will let you know how it goes! Ed.

I found out my brother in law and I both drew GS203 tags (first season in Delta). If anyone is willing to share any details on that area you can email me directly at: [email protected] Good luck to all that drew!
