I'm a year away from graduating with my bachelors of science in nursing degree and I am thinking about doing the traveling nursing thing up there. Can anyone suggest the right city to look into that provides great hunting access either by supercub or hike in?
Thanks,

Lived there for 5 years. Just about anywhere you go you are a plane ride away from hunting. Depends on how far from civilization you want to be. Looooooong winters man, looooooong winters. Maybe settle in Anchorage for a year and get a feel for it and then decide where you want to go. I moved around the Kenai peninsula and spent summers out in the bush. Good experience and good memories for sure....

Good advise from nmwapiti. I have been in Anchorage most of the past 20 years and have traveled all over Alaska for my job and for hunting and fishing. If you want to live in a remote town for the hunting and fishing there are several options. The native corporations are always looking for nurses to work in Bethel, Dillingham, Kotzebue ... etc. You may want to see if you can get a tempory assignment to one of these locations to see if you like it. These are not easy places to live in but I have a friend who has stayed in Bethel for 15 years. He has his own plane and loves to fly. Look up the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation or google Alaska Native Health Corporations or the Indian Health Service for job opportunities. PM me if you need more info.

i've spent a bit of time near Fairbanks over the last few years and it has the same problem as the rest of alaska. it's huge, it's awesome, it's unaccesable! you nead a plane, boat, atv, or horse to get anywhere off the beaten path. i think hunting would be great if you have the equipment but otherwise it's an uphill battle. good luck

Good advice from everyone. I've spent some time in Kotzebue and if it is like most other native villages, I wouldn't sign up for an extended stay until you tried it out. A lot of native villages don't much care for non natives and I don't think I'd like living there full time.

I'd look into the Kenai, Soldotna area. I worked there for a summer and have never met nicer, more helpful people since(except in the Fairbanks area). Fishing is everywhere, along with black bear and moose. Deer hunting is just a short ferry ride to Kodiak from Homer. Absolutely awesome on the peninsula.
