Busy Year

Well, I figured I better post before they removed my user name.
My buddy and I had planned a week long bear hunt this spring. Of course work and other obligations got in the way and all we could pull off was a 3 day hunt. We timed it perfectly though and had great weather, which was in short supply. We spotted 16 bears (no cubs) in 2.5 days of glassing. I had a stalk on a 9 foot chocolate boar go wrong the first day when the wind switched. Had a going away shot at 150 yards, but passed. Took this one the second morning. 8.5' 22 year old sow probably done breeding so a good bear to take out of the population.

My buddy had a 8' boar on the wall so he was looking for a 9.5'+ boar. He passed on two 9 footers over the next day and a half.

So I hooked up with another friend that really wanted to take a ram. He's a commercial fisherman so could only fit it in his schedule in late August, 2 weeks after the sheep opener. A tough line to tow on the opener, but even harder after the hordes have comnbed the mts.
I did run into this guy while training though and didn't pass up the chance at a velvet buck.

Anyway, I have a 37"er on the wall from a few years back so I gave him first dibbs on this hunt. Luckily for me, after we hiked our arses off for 4 days we finally found some legal rams (4 out of a band of 10)and got to within 40 yards of them. Gave them the old one-two punch and dropped two. Unfortunately mine rolled over the side and ended up 1100 feet lower than where I shot him from.

We shot them at the top of the mt about 1 o'clock in the picture, at the edge of the highest patch of grass, my ram ended up at the bottom of the gut in the center of the picture.

I felt a few inches shorter after humping him back to the landing strip. But, toasts were made when we hit our destination (well after I did the 4 mile r/t to the upper strip and got our base camp, read scotch and cigars)and my buddy took the early flight out. I didn't even mind waiting out the storm that rolled in a half hour later and kept me there for another day...
