I've really been wanting to go dall sheep hunting but i want to go diy. i was wondering if a non resident can apply for a dall sheep tag and then hire an outfitter to drop them off and pick them up on certain dates? I've really been dying for a true wilderness hunt on my own and i think this would be the most awesome way to hunt that i could imagine. i know its cold and rugged and all but is it even possible to do a diy nr dall hunt in alaska?

ego participate in Monasteriense muleys proinde ego sum bardus (I participate on monstermuleys therefore I am stupid)

No the outfitter cannot drop you off. You have to go guided or with a family member that is resident of AK. Father brother sister etc......

a true wilderness hunt? ha.

Non-residents must hire a guide when hunting sheep, mtn goats, and grizzly/brown bears. The only way to get around it is to hunt with an Ak resident who is your 1rst degree kin.

I went with my brother in law for dall sheep last year in AK. They have to be with you on the hunt....just like a guide.

you can't hunt elk 500 miles from home without a paid posse but you can go to alaska and find a sheep alone??.....wtf??

Thats why they have the guide law up here. For people like stinky. He would get lost and hurt and get sand in his.....

And he's also the reason we have animals rights groups. He just couldn't stop with just one sheep......

Here ya go Stinky,

Page 10 top right hand corner. Long story short, either you have to have a guide or second degree kin. Alaska offers some great dall opprotunities, wish I had taken them up while I was living up there. Cards just didn't fall right. As soon as you can financially make the leap to go Dall hunting do it. The hunts aren't getting any cheaper. Four years ago I was able to find someone to fly me in someplace for $1000 bucks, now I doubt I could find that deal for $2000-$2500. Now if you want a truly wild trip try Sitka blacktails on Kodiak, and they are pretty reasonable on price. I would say maybe a third of the cost of a Dall hunt. Hope this helps and if you need some more info, just ask.
