I have been thinking and wanting to do an Alaska fishing trip for a LONG time. It has been on my bucket list of things to do. I have researched a lot of different places and looked around and I think I have found the place I want to go.

I really wanted to go to a place that is OUT OF THE WAY of all the other crazy things you see of people fishing in AK. I did NOT want to go where there are 50 people on a bank with lines going everywhere! I have talked with Chet on the phone and this place is not like that. It is a place that you can go and catch TONS of variety and be out all on your own.

Does anyone have any recommendations on my first trip??? I am looking to book in the next couple weeks.

Fishing in Alaska for salmon is often a mater of timing. Last year the king fishing in the area you are looking at was actually shut down due to a weak return of kings to the rivers. What week are you planning your trip for? I would do a little more research and compare several lodges before I laid out 5K for a fishing trip. Some lodges offer to fly you to different locations each day to ensure great fishing and a variety of fish to catch.

AK...I talking with Chet we were looking at the first week of August.

I am not all caught up in catching a 50lb king. What I want is to catch A LOT of fish...and a good variety of fish. I do not want to spend that kind of money and only catch one fish!

I am still wondering if going inland is the idea or I should go where I can go out and catch some deep sea stuff too.

Do you have some ideas of different lodges to compare? I want to go to areas that guys have been. I am FOR SURE going this summer.....just have to decide where!!!

You may want to try Whalers Cove Lodge in the Southeast. I personally haven't used them, but from watching their show, it looks nice. I've known a few folks who have used them and hear really good things about them. You can do both ocean and creek/river fishing with them. I would never think to come up to AK and not at least try the ocean for Halibut, Lingcod, the various Rockfish, and others to include Salmon. Take a look at their web site. To me, they are a bit spendy, but I don't think any worse than the other outfit you mentioned.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.
