Who is headed up this year and for what? Is it your 1st, 2nd.... trip up.

My dad and I are headed up for our 2nd OIL trip :) we actually started planning this one on our flight back to the lower 48 after the first one :)
We are going up for a drop hunt for moose again, this time we are possibly looking to get dropped in an area where we could have a better shot at some other game though (wolf, black bear, fishing). Our goal this time is to spend a little bit more time enjoying it, last time it only lasted 90 minutes.

I'm spending my whole summer working in Alaska this year and hope to find a good black bear in early June and a whole bunch of fish throughout the summer. There is also a slim possibility I may try to hunt Caribou in august but might not make that happen. If nothing else, I will learn a lot while I'm there and have quite an adventure. I'm not quite ready to tackle a moose hunt but hopefully I'll learn enough to make that happen in the near future. Good luck on your moose hunt!

Thanks.
What kind of job are you going to be working at up there? Guessing a fishing type job??

My dad and I tried to get a fishing trip up there but everyone else backed out so we decided not to go. I would love to spend just 5-9 days floating a river, fishing and sight seeing...
Best of luck on finding a big blackie!

Mntman,
Where do you call home? I've seen some of your posts and it seems like you know a lot about hunting in CO and I just wondered where you live. Unfortunately, I will not be working at a fishing type job. I will be a tour guide at a coal mine in Healy which will pay me just enough to have some fun on the weekends. Those fish I am referring to are the ones I intend to catch myself:)

we're heading up for our 3rd trip this summer. We'll fly fish the Situk River for salmon and take a charter out out of Yakutat for halibut. Then we'll fly into Wrangell-St. Elias for a week of sea kayaking, camping and photography.
We've hit Kodiak for the last 2 summers for fishing and bear photography. Kodiak is an awesome place.
I'm trying to put something together for Caribou for 2012 for our first hunting experience up there.
AK may be the coolest place in the world for an outdoorsman.

I live here in colorado springs, been here since 2004. This is a great state to be a hunter. Not so well for fisherman (I grew up in Minnesota, so I am spoiled on the fishing side).

How did you end of as a coal mine guide? is it like a family job (dad, grandpa etc..) or hobby for you?

My wife and I are booked with Max Schwab for sheep. I'm taking a bow and she is bringing a rifle. Hopefully we will get lucky. It is my 2nd trip to Alaska and my wifes 1st trip.

Heading up in three weeks to our Black Bear camp out of Seward. Taking my daughter for her graduation. We fly about 30 minutes east to our camp where we land on the beach and our camp is set up in the trees. Tons of bears in this valley. I've counted as many as 23 bears in one day. Then back up in Aug for our Sept. Moose, Caribou and Grizzly hunts out of Kotzebue.

Going up this August for an archery Dall Sheep hunt. Killed a 42 incher a few years ago with a rifle and really want to stick one with my bow. This will be my 4th trip.

I leave 5/14/11 for a black bear hunt on Kupreanof Island.
A little confusion at the start thinking we were going to Prince of Wales. This is my 3rd trip, did moose the previous 2 trips.
Good Luck
Rick

Leave for Kodiak Silvers for the 3rd time Sept 7. Road system DIY and rent cabin. Been out to Bristol Bay area twice prior to Kodiak trips.

Too many trips to count this year... So far this year I've hunted griz and black bears. Probalby go out again tonight for blackies.

This fall is loaded with hunts, sheep, goat, moose x2, and caribou, next spring is Kodiak bear.

Fishing season starts in a few weeks, which involves a weekly trip or 3 somewhere to kill salt or fresh fish.

Good luck to everyone this summer and fall, hope you have the trip of a lifetime.

Brown and black bears in the coming weeks then dall sheep, moose, and brown bear this fall.

Headed sheep hunting in August. It will be my second trip, first was for caribou. Going out of Healy with Coke Wallace. 10 more saturdays till we fly out!!!

It's all part of the experience Clarke!!!
