Sorry, was more interested in figuring out the picture posting than the story. Anyway this was the 2nd day of our DIY black bear hunt. We were 40 boat miles from Petersburg, AK in a forest service cabin that we rented.
The evening prior we spotted a good bear and tried to catch up to him but he was on the move, not feeding. This ended up being the only bear sighted on our short trip.
My friend Todd who had the boat and access to our primary cabin could not figure out the bear situation, we were told late spring by the locals we talked to? Anyway after reading the cabin sighn in book from the past people mentioned good fishing at low tide below the falls (I called them rapids). So after hunting that morning we decided to hunt our way down to the so called fishing hole at low tide.
The shoreline was starting to narrow down from the timber to the water when in front of me there was a slight drop and curve to the shoreline.
I had just waded through a small pool when I looked up this wolf was just breaking the rise 10 yards in front of me.
Since I was packing a fishing pole and tackle box my rifle was slung over my head and shoulder.
My friends Todd and Chad were behind me and said they saw gear flying and had no clue what I was doing since they had not seen the wolf. The wolf had turned around and went out of sight along the shoreline so I ran up a few feet jacked a shell in and saw the wolf at about 40 yards now stopped and looking back.
I did not make the best shot but for what I had I took it making a raking hind to front shoulder shot.
The wolf started spinning and went into the water, as it was spinning I made a neck shot and it was done.
When we were back in Petersburg to get the hide sealed I was a hero for a day, great people.
Thank You

Thank's guy's.
I will probably do a rug, but I have time to decide while the hide gets tanned.
Thank You

Awesome to walk up on a wolf that just passed away from lead poisoning. I was fortunate and took two while in the Yukon a couple of years back. They were both black, one weighed 135lbs and the other 140lbs. I lifesized both of them on the same habitat and it was worth every penny. I also have a european mount of the one skull and it is way cool. Very few people guess what it is for some reason. Good job. Congrats.

I loved the story!
Congrats on a cool trophy!
The wolf it one of the animals I've never shot. I have had wolf tags in Alaska, NWT and BC but have yet to pop a cap on one.

Again congratulations!
