Hey guys, I am starting to get together a spring bear trip. I was just curious if you guys new any info that might be useful as far as if i need to take an archery proficiency test or anything like that. My girlfriend grew up there and a couple of her friends invited us up to go this year. Starting to get excited and just looking for as much info as i can get to make things go smoothly. Thanks for the help and i hope to be posting pics soon.

What part of the state will you be hunting? Do they hunt over bait or spot and stalk? When will you be going up? I was rifle hunting for black bears in zone 13 and 20 in early June last year. Someone suggested I get on the Alaska hunting forum which was good advice and provides a tremendous amount of information. (http://forums.outdoorsdirectory.com/forumdisplay.php/2-Alaska-Hunting)
In order to bowhunt big game in Alaska, I believe you need to complete a bowhunter safety course. I took the class online and then attended the field day in Wasilla while I was there last summer. I think any bowhunter safety course would qualify but I couldn't find one here in CO that fit my schedule. Keep us posted and good luck!
