Planning a spring bear trip

Hey guys, I am starting to get together a spring bear trip. I was just curious if you guys new any info that might be useful as far as if i need to take an archery proficiency test or anything like that. My girlfriend grew up there and a couple of her friends invited us up to go this year. Starting to get excited and just looking for as much info as i can get to make things go smoothly. What part of the state will you be hunting? Do they hunt over bait or spot and stalk? When will you be going up? I was rifle hunting for black bears in zone 13 and 20 in early June last year. Someone suggested I get on the Alaska hunting forum which was good advice and provides a tremendous amount of information. (http://forums.outdoorsdirectory.com/forumdisplay.php/2-Alaska-Hunting)
In order to bowhunt big game in Alaska, I believe you need to complete a bowhunter safety course. I took the class online and then attended the field day in Wasilla while I was there last summer. I think any bowhunter safety course would qualify but I couldn't find one here in CO that fit my schedule. Keep us posted and good luck!
