Heard from a friend in Anchorage that most of Alaska is having an extreme winter this year.Tons of snow and extreme cold.He thinks a lot of the blacktail on Kodiak might be in trouble this year? Any thoughts. BH1

I'm not sure how much snow there is in Kodiak, but if its as bad as Anchorage the deer are in trouble, they had a bad snow year just a few years ago too. It usually doesn't get as cold there which will help some. The deer hunting is going to be rough around Prince William Sound for years to come, sheep hunting in the Chugache is probably going tank worse than it has, not sure how the goats will fair but I doubt they'll do well.

We just got another 12" yesterday, and are expecting more early next week. I have over 3' of snow in my yard (north of Anchorage). We're easily 200-250% over average for snow.

I think the rest of the state should be fine though. The animals are tough and used to dealing with cold. I just hope we get an early spring.

Alaska is a big state, temps and snow varies tremendously. The panhandle can be 100-110 degrees warmer than the interior.
