HI FELLAS, I WOULD LIKE TO FIND A BOAT BASED COASTAL BROWN BEAR HUNT WHERE DAY HIKES ARE THE NORM. THE BACK PACK HUNTS DONT APPEAL TO ME MUCH AS I GET A BIT OLDER. CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A GUIDE WITH A GREAT TRACK RECORD/HISTORY ?? WOULD THIS BE A DRAW HUNT ???? AS I AM A NON RESIDENT. I ALSO WOULD BE INTERESTED TO KNOW IF THIS WOULD BE A FALL OR A SPRING HUNT FOR BEST RESULTS, AS SOME FISHING WOULD BE A BIG PLUS. ANY INFO. WOULD BE A GOOD START FOR ME.......THANKS FOR YOUR HELP......................YD.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-06-12 AT 05:42AM (MST)[p]I guide on the Alaskan Penninsula in the spring for bears. This hunt is every other spring, even years. We fly into a lake inside the refuge. We are the only ones with permits for inside the refuge. The lake is 6 miles long and we hunt out of a boat we keep on the lake. Extrememly remote. Tags are over the counter. Next opening is 2014. Last two bears we took were 10'10" and 10'01.

Take a look at Litzen Guide Service. I hunted moose and grizz with Mike in 2010. Very professional and my guide, Brad, was first class. He has a high percentage of repeat clients, that says alot to me. He does boat based Coastal brown bear hunts. He had a last minute cancellation hunt at a discount last year but i just could not make it work for my schedule.

I wouldnt overlook SE / Central Alaska brown bear coastal hunts. You generally have to pay a bit more money, but they kill great 9ft + bears there and a lot of book bears. They are more limited in numbers, but they take some nice ones and hikes can be easier. I'd say fall hunts would be less strenuous.

If you're looking for a boat based hunt, you might want to considder Jimmy Rosenbruch, owner of Alaskan Glacier Guides. He hunts from two different yachts, and has very good success. Jimmy is one of the longest tenured master guides in Alaska, with over 40 years guiding experience in southeast Alaska. http://www.glacierguidesinc.com/

I'd second that if you want a true boat-based hunt. SE Alaska would be better for that. Glacier Guides runs a good operation.

As far as the peninsula, Litzen and Bear Lake Lodge are great leads too.

Grizzinator (Greg Jennen) kills some big bears from his boats in SE Alaska too, but I know he books out 3-4 years in advance and costs closer to 27k.

hey fullcry,

how did your spring season wrap up. it was tough down there the first week and then things started to get a little better.
