Kodiak Blacktails

Hello fellow mmr's. A hunting buddy and I are looking into our first Alaskan hunt in 2013. We are looking to hunt Blacktails on Kodiak. Although I have found a wealth of information on the web, I was hoping for some suggestions or ideas to help choose what route to go for our hunt. Hopefully some of you have been and can point me in the right direction. So far we are looking at unguided charters but haven't settled on any concrete plans.
Thanks in advance!

You will find a lot of info on the web. Keep in mind an unguided charter is supplied usually by a "transporter" who legally can not spot, guide, directly, help with your hunt in any way. I've been on DIY hunts on Afognak as a drop camp hunt. It's hard to get around cause you are stationary and it's tough hiking in thick stuff. I've also been on a lodge based self guided hunt in Larsen Bay. Good food, warm at night, new hunting spot each day (dropped off and picked up at a location). Third and best way is a full out guided charter boat. Great food, easy to get our of weather, guide can spot from boat and hunt only where there are deer. More expensive but worth it and you can get nicer bucks and not sleep with bears or get your but kicked.

I guide for brownies there, and have killed a lot of sitkas myself. Lt me know if you need guide, transporter, air taxi recommendations.

I did a Kodiak Island hunt a couple years ago and stayed in one of the government use cabins on the Island. Hired SeaHawk air to fly us in with all our supplies, had a nice warm cabin with plenty of room for only $45 a night. The came back 5 days later and picked us up. Trip of a lifetime.
PM me if you want more info an give me your email address. 4 of us shot 7 bucks and 2 fox.

Thanks for the info everybody. I am really leaning towards the "transporter" charter boat type hunt.
