A friend has bought me a halibut/salmon fishing trip in Cook inlet. Found regs for salmon fishing, but can't find anything about a halibut fishing license?? Will be on a guided fishing trip. Will I need a license for halibut?

I went fishing in homer last year and the fishing license covers both salmon and halibut. You will need a king stamp to keep king salmon. I was allowed to keep 2 halibut a day the limit might be different for you. There was a guy on our boat that did not have the king stamp and he had to let 30lb fish go (buy the stamp). If u need more info just pm me.

Thanks, and yes we will be getting a king stamp! We are fishing for two days at a cabin on the upper Kenai: http://www.drakesonthekenai.com/
and then going on a halibut/salmon trip at Cook Inlet at Ninilchik. Then a little sight seeing before heading home.

txhunter58, you're right. That's the best time to be up there in my opinion. I've been up there during the last two weeks of July before. Non-stop action for almost 24/7.

This is the best week of the year to be on the peninsula for all species. Be sure to tell your guide you want the big halibut and to not just go to what they refer to as "the chicken hole". Kings and reds will be in full force on the Kenai. We are heading down the 18 through the 27. Have a great trip!
