Kodiak Deer Winterkill ?

Since my luck in the drawings has sucked and will probably stay that way I'm looking at booking a Sitka deer hunt on Kodiak.

I know Alaska had some serious snow this year, what is the story on winter loss anyone know?

The ones I've talked to say they don't think it was that bad, but then again I wouldn't expect them to to say much other than that.

I read where the F&G wants to lower bag limits to help the recovery, granted you can still take several deer but that doesn't sound like something they would do if it wasn't a winterkill situation.

I'll call the Kodiak F&G I guess and hope I can get an answer.

Very harsh winter on Kodiak. I talked with my buddy who lives and guides on Kodiak and said that this is not the year to come deer hunting.

Figures, I'm always a year late and a point short.

AK is a pretty accommodating state, they don't answer the phone, they don't return emails and they don't return long distance calls.

After 2 weeks of trying I give up.

Heavy winter kill in some areas, but still a good population. Some areas in the NW Arctic (Brooks Range) drawings had left over Grizzly tags. Caribou & Wolves can be pursued on same hunt as Griz.
