Headed up for 5 days of fishing, but we want to take a one day cruise and trying to decide whether to go with Seward's Kenai Fjord park cruise or Whittier's Prince William Sound cruise. More glaciers on the Prince willliam tour and it is cheaper, but looks like not much to see in Whittier. Would like to see whales, etc too. Either one better for a first timer? Thanks!

I and my family have been on the Phillip's 26 Glacier Cruise out of Whittier twice in the past 5 years and thoroughly enjoyed it. Sent out of state friends on it this summer and they also enjoyed it; saw puffins, otters, whales (even one orca) and of course, 26 glaciers :). Bear in mind most whale sightings are distant and may only include a "blow" or two before the whale dives deep and disappears.

Granted, Whittier isn't much of a town, but you get to drive thru a looooong tunnel to get there, which is remarkable. Seward has the Sea Life Center, which should be a stop if you have kids along.

In reality, I bet you would be satisfied with either cruise line.

Enjoy your trip.

Just did the Seward cruise on Saturday the 28th and saw lots of Orcas, three humpbacks whales, puffers, otters, sea lions, glaciers, seals, had lunch on the boat and dinner on Fox Island. A very good trip. fatrooster.

We did the Whittier cruise and saw lots of otters, seals, sea lions and some good glaciers. One whale in the distance. Very good time as well.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-13-12 AT 09:27PM (MST)[p]Texas Hunter, recently, I stayed 7 days in Homer and got on the R.C. cruise ship Radiance of the Seas at Seward and eased down to Vancouver. 17 days all told. Caught halibut and salmon plus seeing bears, moose, whales, glaciers, the usual sea animals, got wet and cold a couple of times, and enjoyed the entire trip. Hated to get back home in southern Illinois with its temperatures close to 100 degrees. Went on an airplane ride to view moose, bears, whales, glaciers, and more......the pilot spotted two bull moose and buzzed them pretty low and pretty fast....he said, "Both of those moose were 70 inchers!" I disagreed with him silently, of course.
Glad you had an enjoyable trip. Going black powder hunting in unit 61 soon (Colorado) for cow elk. Cowtag

I am ready to go back too! Wish I could afford to go every year. Maybe every other year.
