Alaska 2014

I know these posts have been made in the past but I figured I'd post anyway. I'm looking to make a trip to Alaska this upcoming year. I'd like to do a drop hunt for Moose or Caribou, but would like recommendations on who to go with. Also I might be interested in having a partner join. Would like to do the trip solo but it is hard to find a charter willing to do so. I've researched this topic for a couple years know and I'm finally ready to do a trip this year. I also would really like to do a Dall hunt or brown bear if I could find a resident willing to "guide" me. Shoot me offers and I'll entertain them. I'd gladly pay a good portion of the charter if anyone was interested.

So I'd like to know who you guys recommend? What areas? I'm looking for an all around good experience. A trophy would just be icing on the cake.

No prefrence to units or any of that, just would need to be an area that isn't required to draw.

Thanks for all your help in advance. I'm willing to share info on states such as Utah, Wyoming, Nevada in exchange.

I just finished a drop camp hunt with Ovis Outfitters and they have a couple of options where you can use their camp or they can also act as a transport service. I cant swear to it, but I don't recall anything about them having a rule that you can't go solo. Small two person outfit that bent over backwards for me and my hunting partner.

I will say I do a lot of hunts on my own and I actually really enjoy it, but I thought about my eight days in Alaska and I am not sure if it would have been as enjoyable solo.

Shoot me a message if you want more information and I would probably just call you because other wise I would be typing for a hour.

AKHUNTIN, I've been trying to get ahold of PBA. Not sure if they're booked up already or what? Hopefully I'll hear back soon. Also I'm glad to know the rules on sheep I was not aware of how things worked up there. Thanks for your help!

Yeah I heard back and they are booked until 2016 for moose. I actually booked a caribou hunt on the North Brooks. I'll keep you all posted on that.

Where were you thinking? We booked with 70 North to do a drop hunt out of the North Brooks, everything I've heard about the outfit and the hunt have been positive.

Just to clarify, 70 North is a TRANSPORTER, not an outfitter...There is a big difference. I have been TRANSPORTED by 70 North several times and have had good experiences although I have yet to fly in or out on the dates I wanted, but that is what happens given the variable AK weather and 70 North having alot of customers. Best of luck to you.
