This is what I have planned out for my August 2015 Bou hunt. I am just looking to get some thoughts on this. Nothing is booked yet. Any tips or suggestions are more than welcome.
Fly into Prudhoe Bay $1300-$1500 round trip. I will get an Alaskan Airlines Credit card as soon as I turn 18 to build points, and nock some price off of this.

Buy hunting license and two tags for a total cost of $735

Be picked up by the outfitter, (70 north) in Prudhoe Bay and driven up to Happy Valley. $600 round trip split between hunters.

Fly out from happy valley to hunting spot for $2000 round trip, includes hauling on caribou per hunter.

If extra flight is needed to get meat out it is $1500 split between hunters.

Shipping meat back should be roughly $300 according to 70 North.

The gentleman I spoke to said that the only way to get your antlers home is through a company called antlers express? Rough cost of $500 split between hunters if you can fit multiple racks in one box.

Total cost of hunt should be a little over $5000 dollars.

You can fly your antlers back via Alaska air lines, they have a cargo division. Fly them out the day before you get on your plane and they will be waiting for you to pick up upon getting home.

Careful of the air miles, I see many airlines are cutting back on those benefits, so don't plan on a discount. If it happens, just a bonus for you.

Also, many guys up there require two people minimum, may need to find a partner. If you do, buy your tickets together for AK airlines if you have their credit card. You get one free ticket/year (minus a couple hundred in fees).

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

It's been a few years since I did it, so hang with me.

I did a drop hunt with Deltana outfitters. I paid them 2000.00 which included airport pickup and dropoff, bush flight, camping gear, and food.

Airplane tix were 1100.00 Oregon-Anchorage-Prudhoe Bay, and home again.

Shipping of horns/meat was 150.00 I shipped with Alaskan, and picked everything up the next day.

Good luck. You're going to have a blast.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-25-14 AT 10:25PM (MST)[p]Good plan. Alaska Air miles are golden. Your transporter has a solid reputation. I liked the drive from Fairbanks to Happy Valley but you would need to rent a vehicle. Ankle fit hip boots. Thermocell. Pack rod for grayling.

The going rate on the North Slope for a fly in Bou hunt is about 2200-2500 per person. Most book up pretty quick for the better weeks (late Aug) but you may get lucky and have an opening. I went last year in late August, had a blast with another operation. No bugs, cool temps and lots of caribou.

Headed back this year with three friends who are coming from the L48 and if I had to guess it will run them $4,000 - $4,500 each all said and done.

You can fly to Fairbanks and rent a vehichle for much cheaper than flying into deadhorse and if you have a few guys, the rental will be even cheaper. Eliminating the Deadhorse flight will help on many fronts in that you will be in a real town with stores that you can buy last minute items, food, and prepare meat for shipping on the way out. Something to think about...

70 North is a great and reputable outfitter, I wouldn't hesitate going with them but them only having one caribou included into your rate is strange to me... You will be done on the first day I'd guess.

Best of luck,

Nick
