POW Deer hunting

I'm planning a DIY rifle deer hunt next year to POW island. I'll be driving from SCal to Prince Rupert, then taking the AHS. I'm planning on either staying in a public cabin or renting a private cabin. My time frame is unlimited, so. When is the best time to go? Where on the island should I be looking(North/central/south)? Should I hike high or go during the rut and use a boat?

I am headed up to thornebay in Nov as well in hopes of getting a couple of deer with my bow. It certainly looks like the learning curve in a little steep but I am no stranger to late season hunts in nasty country so I hope that gives me a little edge. So far the big thing has been good rain gear and rubber boots :)

Good luck on your hunt, you may be surprised at how tough it is to get a deer on POW. If you go early (Aug/Sep) expect the deer to be living in goat country (no goats on POW though). If you go later, your guess is as good as any as to where they are. My first trip to POW I hunted 9 days, saw very few deer and finally arrowed one on the last day, mid elevation. He came to a deer bleat after I spotted him. If you go in the rut, get a bleat and use it.

I will be going back, maybe this year depending on a few things. If I do, it will be in August so that I at least have a good idea where to hunt, which will be in the alpine.
