I am going for a week of fishing Beginning August 8 2015 in the Soldotna area. Is there any "must See' type things there. I will have a car and will stay there in Soldotna.Any great eateries or bars or views?
Thanks J_T_B

JTB, old town Kenai is cool, lots of old cabins, old Russian Orthodox Church. Homer is awesome for the views and on the spit is the Salty Dog Saloon.

Out of Seward are fjord tours, You can also hike Exit Glacier.

Mid-late July you can see the mouth of the river full of dip netting fisherman but from the same vantage point are great views of cook inlet.

Can't help with the eateries, not that I have not tried them just was not impressed enough to give good reviews.

Fishing on the other hand should still be decent, you will be on the tail end of the red season on the Kenai, some pinks and silvers will start showing up, make sure to book a halibut trip.

Have fun!

Don't forget the monster Kenai Rainbows. I will be there around the same time and will primarily be targeting the big bows. Are you fishing on your own or with a guide?

I bought a package of 2 river salmon trips 2 halibut trips and a fly-in. I paid extra and changed the halibut to 6 pack type of trip. I won't have to worry about rods or tackle. Thanks for the directions men!

If you find yourself near Anchor Point (you should be close if you booked a couple halibut trips), look for the Anchor Point Wildlife Museum. It's right on the main highway, on your left going toward Homer. If it's still open you will be blow away, I promise. Give yourself about an hour to see it all.

Be sure to go into the Soldatna Chamber of Commerce and see the 97 lb. King they have mounted.

Good luck on your fishing adventure. I love that area.

Guns are like parachutes. If you need one and don't have one you probably will never need one again.

Good luck JTB. Keep us posted! You get them fish worked up and a few weeks after you get back I will go in for the kill. Going up the 4th -12th of September. Going for the Silvers and Halibut. I am going to have to check out Eels Museum and big fish story. Love the Anchor River for Silvers. On your way to Soldotna. Stop by the Russian River the Reds should be stacked up quite a sight if you haven't seen it. One of them big bows of the Keini has my name on it. Rutnbuck
