Got to take my old hunting buddy out this past week. He got a big one.

Yes he did! I really like blacktails. Thanks for posting.

Eel

Guns are like parachutes. If you need one and don't have one you probably will never need one again.

Great looking buck, what's up with the different colors on that rack? Bases are different color. Also is that some type of call around the hunters neck?
Very different.....

Color of antlers is based on what type of tree they are rubbing against. This one has been rubbing alders which gives the nice golden color. They will be brown is rubbing on pines. I have seen some with a ruby red color - not sure which tree/bush gives this color.

That is a call around his neck. Pretty much a bleat call. The reed on these is a standard rubber band. Blacktails are very susceptible to calling and bucks especially so during the rut. We do a lot of calling in open timber and along the margins of openings (muskegs).

Musk thanks for the reply. It is interesting that the sap influences the color of the horns. I get it ....but here in Kali in our coastal range never have run accross anything like that. I am going to purchase one of those calls and try it here for Blacktails next season.

Again thanks from the reply.
