North to Alaska

I've been listening to the classic Johnny Horton song "North to Alaska". It's getting me excited to finally take the plunge and head north. I found some killer round trip ticket prices I bought them.

I'm heading up to Anchorage the first week of August to fish for silvers and hop over to Kodiak to check it out. Next year I'll hunt for either caribou or blacktails.

Am I going to like it?

My goal is to keep a silver big enough to mount as a good specimen. Is anyone aware of a good taxidermist in Anchorage?

Yeah, Jonny Horton, that song still gives me goosebumps.

I think your timing is great. Alaska fishing is all about timing. Every thing cycles and peaks in about a three week period. Silvers, Kings, just about any speci/event is hot for three weeks, and it is fairly predictable. But Alaska is a big place and event timing for Silvers in Kodiak might be a litttle different for peak timing in Anchorage/Keani/Homer area---but I think your timing is good on this one. Good luck to you.

We'll probably head to Kodiak to sight see. I'll fish the little Sue for silvers. My friend, who lives in Wasilla is going to guide me. I also want to sight see and visit friends, so I may only fish one full day. But, I'll go back.
