I'd also like to hear from someone anyone that has used this pack. I almost bought one about a month ago but since I've never seen one except for pictures I held off. It seems to be a pretty nice overall pack and should work but I can't seem to find anyone actually using one????

Being a pack dealer, I like to try about everything new that comes out. I don't have a ton of experience with it, but took it out on a few summer outings. It is built more like a traditional backpacking pack. Pro's it is very light weight and I really like the pockets on the side for a spotting scope. I think the best use for this is a short bivy or backpacking hunt. The cons material is a little loud (trade off for the light weight)and while roomy it is a top load like a backpacking pack and my opinion would not be extremely great for hauling quarters or large amounts of meat trying to slide it down in. It serves the purpose of being very roomy to haul in a lot of gear and then very light weight as a daypack just not lots of odds and ends pockets like many hunting packs. For those that want just one pack it would serve the purpose. I really like a small pack for day trips and for hunts I really like having some type of gun holder like some of the blacks creek or eberlestock offer. If I am doing a backpacking trip with the chance of hauling out an animal I want something that expands and is very heavy duty I don't like making more trips than needed. Very long winded but there is never one size fits all pack for all people or all types of hunting but if you like something light weight that will be very versatile this is a nice pack.

Thanks for the review!

LAST EDITED ON Oct-19-10 AT 05:06PM (MST)[p]I love the new pack! It's strong, light weight, and built to carry some weight. The rifle carry system on it works well too. . .

It's a great pack to own!

I have a new one that has seem only limited use, but this will change soon, especially if I choose to take it on my high country backpacking trip next season. Right now, it's a toss up between it, my Eberlestock and my Badlands. I have used the last 2 packs a lot and just as you will read elsewhere here, they have their pros & cons.

Just based on my limited experience with the Barbarian, I believe that hunt33 probably has it nailed down.

I spent 16 days sheep hunting with one this year. I really like it. I did not haul meat though and I think it would do ok with alot of weight but not as good as a heavier pack designed for this purpose. It does a great job with 50 lbs. and carries the rifle nicely. I like it better than my previous Eberlstock and Badlands for sure.

Anybody else have some reviews on this pack? I'm in the market for a new high country 3-5 day muley hunting pack... my badlands 2200 just ain't big enough and my Gregory Palisades can't handle the weight and doesn't have enough accessories for hunting...

Type the pack name in on youtube and there is a video showing the breakdown of this pack. I just ordered one to use on my pack in archery deer hunt.

Can anybody tell me how the suspension compares with the regular Barbarian 2.5? I've noticed that the hip belts and shoulder straps all seem to vary between each model BC pack. I tried on a regular 2.5 Barbarian the other day with a 60 lb sandbag in it and holy crap it was awesome! Felt EXTREMELY comfortable.... much more so than the Badlands 4500 I tried on 20 minutes before it. Only thing keeping me from buying the regular 2.5 is the weight (8 lbs!) and maybe a little small for a week long hunt...

for the price, it's a great product and very comfortable . . . if you buy one you'll be happy with it . . . a week long hunt, unless youre in hunting very early and not in alpine situations or in the north country is doable with the Featherweight. Hunting style, location, weather, your demands for comfort, all play a role in which pack can carry your load. I will say that the FW pack is a sold piece of gear . . . I'm not saying it's the pack to end all, it's not, but it does the job it was designed to do and does it well . . . think of it like this, if you spend the money on it and you dont like it, you can sell it just about anywhere you want and only take a small hit . . .

I had to send mine back today as the zipper was starting to come unstiched. A friend had the same problem and they fixed it for free.

Thanks Guys. I ended up just picking up the regular Barbarian 2.5... Got a smoking deal on one brand new for $180 that I just couldn't pass up. I have a very well thought out high country setup and can strap 100% of my gear to the outside of my pack leaving the entire 3100 cubic inches on the inside for meat. I'm gonna take it for a 3 day scouting trip next weekend at 7000' feet and will let you know how I think it performs. I love the layout of the pack and how it fits with 65 lbs inside. I'll hopefully be strapping a lot more to it in the coming months!

Smith, US Special Forces

Got mine a few weeks ago. I have taken it out four times now and love it. It is very comfy with 30-40 pounds of gear in it and I am taking it on a four day archery hunt next week in NV. The suspension system is great. It has a quick adjustment strap over each shoulder that you tug on if it the load is not centered(feels like it is pulling backwards). Hopefully I can tell you how well it hauls meat!
