Problems with Smart Wool?

I have several tops and bottoms from smart wool in both light and mid-weight. On several pieces, after just a few hunts they have these very small 1/4 inch holes in them. I am a huge fan of their products, but concerned if they will hold up over time.

Any one else have any problems? Or wool products you like better

Not moths...I keep all my hunting gear in the same place and only my smart wool tops and bottoms have holes

Only have on piece, a pullover, but same 1/4" hole problem too. Good stuff, but question durability as well.

Add yet I am another who has had holes develop in my Smartwool pullover. Mine is hte 1/4 zip pullover in Med weight and it only lasted 2 seasons...actually only about 8 hunts over 2 years.

While I love Smartwool products, I may check out the others like Arctic Shield, or even Cabelas, going forward.

I have a couple of the KUIU Merino Wool base layer shirts, and really love them.
You might want to check them out.

Yup, same problem with my Smartwool quarter zips and pants. Some are older and some that I just purchased last season show the same holes you describe.

I really like the Smartwool base layers (midweight) and I tend to be able to wear them across a wide range of weather (I don't get too hot wearing them in moderate temps). But I am frustrated as well that these small holes are developing - they are not weak points in seams or stress areas. Random holes...

I'm wondering if it's because I'm machine washing and drying them??? At any rate, I'll be looking for something more durable when it comes to replacing them. I'll have to give the First Lite stuff a look....

I'm going to send a message to Smartwool customer service as well to see if they have any answers - I'll post if anything interesting is learned...

I had the same problem. I bought 4 pairs of the UltraLite breifs. I took them out of the package and washed them once with a mixed load of clothes, pulled everything out of the dryer to find theat 3 of the 4 pairs all had the little holes in them. I called Smartwool CS and they sent me out 3 new pairs. No problems with the ones I have now. Very weird!
