Best medium weight boot?

Does anyone out there have any experience with the Lowa Ranger GTX Hi, or the Zamberlan 1009 Vioz Top GT. I'm trying to find a medium weight boot with alot of ankle support and a flexible sole. I currently have the Lowa Tibet. A good boot, just too stiff for me. Really kills the balls of my feet on big hikes. I also have the Zamberlan Steeps. A great, comfortable boot. I want the ankle support of the Lowas and the comfort of the Zamberlan. Any other suggestions that might fit the bill? Thanks

The various Meindl boots thru cabelas may be good options, like the Teton hikers or perfekts. They have good ankle support but the soles are not as quite as stiff as the AK hiker (though they are still fairly stiff). For whatever the reason there usually seem to be a few pairs in the bargain cave for a savings of around $100 versus new.

The Lowa Ranger GTX is one of my very favorite boots and the Hi version is more of the same.

If you think the Tibet is too stiff then you will not like the Meindls. Generally speaking the Zamberlans and certainly the Salamons will not provide enough support.

Try the taller Kenes but they are not going to be much different than the Rangers. Also take a look at the taller American made, only, Danners. Crispi and Kaland also have a number of boots with softer lowers with stiff, supportive uppers.

Good luck.
