Wall Tents

Hey guys. We sold out camper trailer earlier this month. We plan on getting a Wall tent. I do not know anything about them. I saw that there's a buddy heater that can safely run in tents, without the poisonous gasses, so a stove would not be a necessity, but I think I would prefer one. Are floors good in tents? Do they get ripped up easily in wall tents, or does a non-floored tent with a tarp work better?

What sizes can comfortably sleep 6 people, with gear? Probably on cots.

Thanks guys.

Davis tent makes very nice tents, and well priced. They run monthly specials every month and you can get even better deals then. As far as the floor, if you want to run an internal frame it can be a real chore to set up with a floor sewn in, but if your just going to run a traditional pole kit its not so hard to set up with a sewn in floor. You are better off using a wood stove in a wall tent because its a dry heat and propane heaters create condensation in a tent.

Here's another recommendation for Davis tent
Get one size bigger then you think you need. For six people I wouldn't get anything smaller then a 14x16
Get a tent without a floor.Use a tarp instead its easier to keep clean
Also I used my buddy heater for a few years and hated it.It didn't like to run above 8000' elevation.Get you a wood stove and you will never go with out heat
The best frame Ive found is the traditional Pole systems from Davis tent. Its easy to put up and take down

I have three Davis tents and they are great. I would definitly get a cylinder stove and you will love it. All of my tents have the internal frames and I can set them up my self. as far as floors I would either use a tarp or get a 3/4 floor from Davis.

These Davis tents look pretty sweet.

Is it hard for you guys to find a spot big enough to pitch the tent? They seem pretty big..

Is it better to get it treated? It costs a lot more.

you will definitely want a treated tent. as far as finding a spot to set it up, i've never had a problem and i have a 14X16' tent. I have the 3/4 floor from davis as well.

Check out the tents made by Cylinder Stoves. They are the best in my opinion. They are sewn with a lock stitch not a chain stitch like Davis tents, chain stitch is what's on your dog food bags, pull one end and the whole thing comes unraveled. They use silicone stove jacks not fiberglass and they come with two doors. You're going to need a big tent for 6 people on cots and gear. I use a 15'X18'. It will hold 5 cots with gear stored under the cots and a stove. Add couple windows for ventilation, wall tents can get hot in warm weather. Sewn in canvas floors are a pain to clean and will get destroyed quickly. I use a vinyl movie banner for my floor but tarps will work fine. I prefer the A frame style frames.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-31-11 AT 08:08AM (MST)[p]Instead of a huge tent, I think I would buy two small tents(10x14 or 12x14), That way if the whole group doesn't come you can still setup and use a small tent by yourself or with 2 other hunters,You can put both up and use one for sleeping and one for cooking and storage 2 tents just opens up more possible ways to be used.

Another vote for a Davis tent.

They have great package deals with stove and all. Even if you dont plan on buying one from them take a couple minutes and call. They gave me great advice on what not to spend extra money on and where very helpful.

Thanks guys. Some very good information on here!

When I say "we" I basically just mean my parents. I am still in high school, and I have 2 sisters under 6 year old, so that accounts for 2/the 6 people in the tent. We've been looking at KSL, but most tents are barely cheaper then they are new..

Looks like we'll have to be looking into the Davis tents more. I've heard a lot of good things about them.
