Wood Stove Chimney

Hey guys, just looking for some advice. I have a wood stove I made years ago that uses a 4" stove pipe to take out the smoke. The stove works great and never had any problems cept one time in Wyoming burning dead pine. The pipe was almost plugged after 10 days of using using the stove nightly. No creosote just real feathery soot or ashes choking the pipe almost in half. Now just take a brush along and make sure it always clean. My question now is that I want to build a smaller stove and thinking of using only 3" pipe. Is that big enough for for a small stove? Are there factory made stoves that only use 3" pipes? Does anyone have a stove with 3" pipes and do they work ok? Thanks for your time.........

Yep, built a couple of those little backpack stoves and used the .005 SS shim stock. I think my stove pipe was just under 3" dia but this was for a small *" dia x 12" long barrel stove from the same material [so not burning logs in that thing!]

You can order the shim from Mcmaster Carr online and get the fine cable and ss cable clamps to assemble it there also.

I will attempt to post a photo of the stove and pipe from a pack in archery elk hunt in Co. 76 last year .....
