My article comparing Kuiu, Cabelas, WT, and Sitka camouflage waterproof slash breathable hunting jackets is not 100% complete yet but I posted what I have so far.

I am not sure that the perfect jacket for hunters has been made yet but we are getting very close.

Excellent, Wade. Good stuff there - thank you. I've had a few of those and my favorite so far is the Kuiu chugach stuff. It's held up to the few tests I've thrown at it so far with great aplomb.

Have you had a chance to try any of the propper stuff? I've been interested in checking some of this gear out-

Thanks, I hope it helps with the decisions. Spent five hours on a plane yesterday and had a chance to edit that raw post and then cleaned it up last night and published the changes so it should be pretty good now.

Should have added the Sitka Stormfront Lite from the get go so that is the only thing I have left to fix on it.

Yea, only time will tell for me on the Kuiu Chugach. Like I said I am concerned how such a light fabric will fair in this country and also how that Toray laminate will do. I certainly understand why he didn't use Gore-Tex and maybe they couldn't get a deal done with eVent (GE). Toray may have been the only option but their PU (vs EPTFE) is a different approach. We'll see I guess.

Propper actually makes the APECS USMC issue parka I wrote about and the APCU rain jacket is a similar piece although more mountaineering oriented. My only problem with the APCU Rain Jacket is that it doesn't have pitzips. Generally, I think Propper does a good jiob but I have had some quality issues with them in the past and they are absolutely unresponsive to my inquiries. Not that I am a big deal but you would think that they would at least return my email messages or phone calls. Nope, nothing.

The APCU system is a very good one and I hear nothing but positive feedback on it from my military readers. They don't use it all but it is nice for them to pick and choose according to the situation. The military, at least the spec ops part, finally get it.

So we continue to make progress on this subject. With a few tweaks and fine tunning adjustments I think we are there.

Best regards to all of you and god luck on your hunts.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-14-11 AT 09:30PM (MST)[p]Wade, have you ever checked out the Marmot Alpinist? It's a bit heavier than the Theta and probably too noisy to hunt in, but I love mine as a mountaineering shell and when I'm bombing around above timberline. I also found mine in a lighter olive color that works for outdoors stuff and doesn't stand out. I'd be curious to see how you thought it stood up to the rest.
