Day pack suggestions

I am in need of a good day pack, one that will carry a Vortex Razor 85mm spotter, a medium size tripod (24" folded, 3#), knife, flashlight, lunch, water, camera, etc. This will not be used for overnight trips and only used to pack meat out on the initial trip until I get my frame pack.

I have a BL 2200 and it doesn't really carry the scope well(scope pocket too small for Razor)

Looking at the following:

Eberlestock X2
Blacks Creek X7
Horn Hunter
Horn Hunter XL

Any suggestions and hands on experience with any of theses or others in this category very much appreciated.

I've had a a ton of packs, and the X2 is my favorite so far. It carries a spotter and a tripod very well, as well as having plenty of room for whatever else you need, all while staying compact and zipping up tight. I highly recommend it.

None of the above...get you a Mystery Ranch Dragonslayer. By far the best day pack I've owned and I've gone through just about all of them.

I may be mistaken but the X2 doesn't have a adjustable harness does it? I am going with the X1 for that reason. The first generation x1 you could not adjust the pack for a taller frame and it was not very comfortable so be sure and try some on first.

The Razor fits in the x2 pockets, but I sold my x2 because it did not fit me very well. Bought a MR Dragon slayer and could not be happier. For me it fits and carries more weight FAR better then the x2

I will be hunting mostly with a rifle but occasionally with my bow.

Hornhunter MainbeamXL. Plenty of room for scope and tripod. Will hold a gun or bow equally well.

Ryan,

I think you need to look at the Eberlestock packs with the built in scabbard. Have you ever used a pack with a scabbard?

It frees up your hands for glassing, or walking to your spot. Its awesome.

Look at the J34 and the X1A1. I like the X1A1 because it is a little smaller and lighter but the J34 will carry out a heavy load better. The X2 is great but doesn't have the harness that these 2 have and doesn't have the rifle scabbard. Most hunters I know that have switched to a pack with a scabbard will never go back.

Most day packs just wont carry a big load well.

I agree I used to have a X1 but it did not fit me well. The new ones x1A have a adjustable harness and the fact it can carry both a rifle and bow is really nice and it has enough room for a long day hunt.

Horn Hunter Mainbeam, I packed out a deer last Sunday, I had a front and hind qtr with almost all the gear you mentioned on my back and the pack was GREAT!
