MR Crew Cab Or Longbow

I'm planning on going with a 2 pack system. The 6500 for trips greater than 4 days and then either the CC or longbow for day hunts or short bivy trips. I'd like to hear everyones opinion on the two.

Most people love the CC but I don't. I just don't like the way it is divided in 3 compartments, but I must say that when you have to carry meat/antlers plus some gear, it is good.

I'd like to get the Longbow. I can give you a deal on the CC, you would have the NICE frame already if you buy the 6500.

Ive got the Crew Cab, love it. Family member has the Longbow, likes it too. Cant go wrong with either. Side by side, will for sure get more gear into the Crew Cab esp when hauling meat. Other than that, not alot of big differnces in qaulity bags.

The longbow will haul elk quarters by dis connecting the pack, placing the quarter between the bag and frame then re attaching the bag to the frame and sinching up. Pain in the butt but works as they wont fit in the pack unless boned out.

Easy. Since you are getting the big 6500 get the longbow. It is lighter than the CC.
I packed out an elk with my longbow by putting it between the pack and frame. I got the CC and like the longbow better. Now, if you were only getting one bag, that is where the CC might edge out the longbow. Your system of 2 bags is a great idea as far as I am concerned. CC for a day pack just seems kinda heavy, however I did see a modification where they cut off the small side packs and put them back on with a zipper! That would be what I would do if I could only own one pack. I carried over 100 pounds to a bait site with my MR nice frame system so you know they are good!

I have the 6500 and then picked up a Dragonslayer as well. I was going to get the longbow but the Dragonslayer is pretty much the same thing and 2.5 lbs. lighter. LOVE them both.

Marley,
You may be correct and I'd even like to have the Dragonslayer but if you ever kill anything that has to be packed out the Longbow will make the load much less painful on your shoulders and back.

I ordered my dragon with the upgraded belt so it doesn't ride anyndifferent than the nice frame IMO. Last year I packed out 2 deer, an antelope and a lion with my dragon and it rode great. I can fit 2 deer quarters and the head and cape and all my gear in it, which is about all I want to carry anyways. I put all antelope quarters in it and all lion quarters as well as the entire cape strapped to the top. For elk I usually pack my 6500, take out a load with that and then go back in with my load sling that I left in the truck. That extra 2.5 lb cut in weight is worth it for me when it comes to a day pack with the dragonslayer.

I have both the CC and Longbow. I will eventually get the 6500 for longer trips. I've packed out elk with both the CC and LB. I felt both packs did a great job and made the weight carrying comfortable.

I use the LB as my day pack, I like the inside pocket design of the LB but could easily hunt with either as a daypack.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-18-12 AT 04:17PM (MST)[p]Why not pack the 6500 as a daypack or bivy pack.If you plan on killing something, which I'm sure you do,the 6500 is a lot better pack for handling heavy cumbersome loads and works fine as a day pack. You can ditch the pack lid to save a little weight.I throw in my spotting scope, tripod, snack bag, and a few basic survival items, and compress the pack down to almost nothing.I see no reason for a day pack unless you are scouting and have no intentions of packing out a critter.I used my MR 6500 on a three week hunting trip in AK.It served me well as an expedition pack, meat hauler, and day pack. In three weeks time, we packed out 2 dall sheep, 2 moose, and a Grizz. You need to be equipped to haul heavy loads as soon as you pull the trigger.
