LAST EDITED ON Aug-02-12 AT 00:29AM (MST)[p]Need to buy a holster for this type of pistol with approx. 4" barrel length that will be comfortable when hiking, camping, riding 4 wheeler's (is it legal to carry on 4-wheeler?), general recreation, etc. Would you recommend:
1. waist/belt holster
2. ankle holster
3. shoulder holster
4. other?

I have a waste/belt holster that has a cover flap to help protect the pistol as well as keep it a little cleaner from dust and debris. There are several brands out there. You will be better off searching around on-line for something to your liking :)

My holster is leather and was manufactured by Safariland Modle 58B and it is holding a Colt trooper Mark III 357 mag. your frame should be similar but they should have something that fits your specific pistol. Also A.M.S 1-800-368-4267 makes an assortment of nice waterproof fabric holsters with a velcro hold down strap that is what we use backpacking when we carry our Glocks.

Good luck and you will need to check the Regs. in our riding area regarding the loaded handgun while riding on an ATV.

Well, it isn't an ankle holster. They are for concealment and if you are active, are a PIT-neck.

A shoulder holster is a good choice....but I always worry my gun plopping out. They are hard to draw from...unless you have long arms. A shoulder holster that holds the gun on the stoamach, or low chest is a good choice...and is also a good choice for when carrying a pack.

A belt holster...there are reasons that is what cops use them. You can sit down w/it on and it is accessable. They are next to impossible to use w/a backpack on. They do work w/a daypack.
