Lowa or Kenetrek Boots

I decided I need to invest in a pair of true quality hunting boots that need to be able to handle late season hunting (down to about ten degrees in the snow) and definitely be waterproof.

I thought that the Insulated Kenetrek Mountain Extreme 400s were the ticket, but it sounds like they may leak. If that's the case, then they are worthless. Maybe Kenetrek has fixed this problem? Because of the possibility of the Kenetrek's leaking, I am thinking I should try the Lowa Hunters?

So anyway, I am trying to choose between the Lowa Hunter and the Kenetrek Mountain Extreme 400s.

If any of you guys have experience with these boots, I would appreciate any comments or input you may have.

I purchased the Kenetrek Mountain Extreme 400 in 2010 and they leaked like a sieve, had wet feet for ten days on a sheep hunt. I just recently got around to having Kenetrek replace them which they did without any problem, just had to send them in so they could test them and they sent me a new pair.

I also talked to a guy that had two pair that he had purchased in 2011 and they both leaked. But I have also talked to people that had them and didn't have any problems with their Kenetrek boots and loved them.

I haven't wore the new pair yet so I don't know if they are going to leak or not.

I don't know if I am willing to take a chance on the Kenetrek's if they have not fixed the hit and miss leaking problem yet.

I own the Kenetreks and I have a pair of Lowa Ranger GTX. I like them both very much. I have had zero problems with moisture with the Kenny's. I have hunted with them for three years with PLENTY of opportunity for them to leak. They have always stayed bone dry.

I think you can't go wrong with either and would recommend that you go with the pair that fits your feet the best.

I am on my 3rd pair of Kenetreks, 2-pair with 400 gram thinsulate and one pair without thinsulate. I like the extra big tread on the bottom and the wide sole. I've never had a leaking problem. I think it has to do with the shape of your foot as to how a boot will perform for you. I have flat feet and love my Kene's. fatrooster.

I have had two pairs of the Kenetrek non insulated and hunted late season hunts in waist deep snow and my feet were dry as a bone and plenty warm. In fact, I'm selling a pair of practically new 11.5s if your interested.

I have both.

I wear the Kenetreks everyday and use them for flatland hunting. When I use them in the high country, I still get a heal slip. Lots of water time in them and I have never had an issue.

For lots of climbing, I go with the SheepHunter, which I love. If I could only have one, it would be the Lowa.

Your foot may vary.
