I am in need of a good (new) pack (pack frame) for packing meat / hind quarters, etc. If money weren't an option, what's the best pack out there? Badlands?
Badlands doesn't even make the top three. Of course personal preference figures into it, but some of the top packs are:
Kifaru
Kuiu
Eberlestock
Mystery Ranch
I used a Kuiu last year with good results, and used an Eberlestock the year before that. The one feature missing on every pack available is the guy to carry it. If they could include a little magic "dude" to carry my pack for me, I'd buy just about anything.
Bill
I would recommend the Eberlestock Blue Widow,it is a meat hauling machine.Packed two Elk this year, one in Idaho, and one in Wyoming.Previously i had the Sitka 2200,and the 4500,and they are basically a POS.IMO! Sika does not have the load capacity, and you are constantly breaking the cheap flimsy plastic buckles..
If all you want to do is pack meat and are looking for a frame pack, the cabelas outfitter frame will work just fine. That thing will handle more weight than I want to carry thats for sure and I'm speaking from experience here.
MBBUCK, take a look at the Freighter Packs from Barney's Sports Chalet in Anchorage AK. They are spendy, but are fantastic meat haulers. Most guides up here use them when they carry 160-200lb wet bearskins and large moose quarters. You will not be sorry. Here is a review that Petersen's Hunting did on it in 2011: http://www.petersenshunting.com/2011/07/07/hunting-gear-tests-house-of-pain/

I have used a few of the packs listed and my most comftorble (if that is possible comftorble) is and was the Horn Hunter Full Curl. I hated my Nice frame and Kifaru Duplex. If you go Duplex get the smaller torso pad! Kelty Cauche Hauler is a good work horse as well.
garion33 gave you some solid information. I spent 18 days in AK and during that time packed out 2 moose, 2 sheep, and a grizzly. The frame packs by barneys are the best for hauling heavy loads of meat. Now if were talking about versatility i.e. backpacking and hauling meat, the mystery ranch 6500 is hard to beat.
I use the Horn Hunter Full Curl Pack System. Pretty solid pack with a meat shelf for your heavy loads. If you are looking into these packs, you can get them two ways either the Full Curl Combo or the Full Curl System. The difference is that the 'System' includes a 3,000 cubic inch bag for overnight/week long pack trips. If you are just hauling meat, I would suggest the Full Curl Combo. We sell both these packs at 30% Off Retail. They are our best seller by far. Here is some links if you are interested:
