I am planning my archery hunt in the rubys for this season, area 102 and was looking for opinions on the temps at night in late aug early sept up at the Higher altitudes. Do you think a 30 rating will be good enough? Im trying to stay super light this year and shave about 20lbs out of my pack and I know that bag is light. Just seeing if opinions on a 30* vs a 15* for that time of year. Thanks in advance.

If it were me, as I sleep a bit cold, I'd get a Feather Friends or Western Mountaineering 20 degree bag. I'm in the market too and Feathered Friends has a 20 degree bag that is around 1 lb 12 oz. It's a 900 fill bag and is super high quality. If taken care of it's something you'll pass down to your kids! They aren't cheap though, but the best stuff isn't. I have a Marmot and two North Face bags I will never buy either of those again. I'll go straight to the best so I don't have to do what I am doing now...replace each of them with a better bag.

Cool deal. I am looking at options for sure. WHat would you say the reasons are for not buying marmots again? is it quality, malfunction, durrability, false temp rating? I am wondering becuase I am comparing bags now and the price is to to the point where either one is spending a good chunk $$. Is it just preference? I have never bought a "nice" bag before and want it to be an investment. I know with some equipment its all about experiences and some people that are happy with one thing another person may hate it. Thats why Im asking if there are specific items or reasons that determined your choice.

THanks

I have several bags for different seasons. My Marmot Never Summer bag is great ,no complaints. Used it down to -20 and stayed warm. I use a Kelty synthetic bag for warmer weather,20 deg+.
They are not 1 1/2# bags but, they are very good quality and I found them on sale. Look at REI,Campmore,Cabellas or your local backpacking store to find deals. I know many folks who have no complaints with Marmot,North Face,Kelty,or Big Agnes bags.

I picked up a MontBell UL Spiral Down Hugger #1 Stretch bag a couple years ago. 2 lbs, 15 degree bag has handled my early and mid fall hunts in comfort. The best thing besides the weight and compacting down to the size of a football is I'm a big guy with wide shoulders, and the bag stretches giving me a great sleep in comfort without binding me all night!
