GoPro Cameras

I want to pick one of these cameras up but don't know which one to get. It will be used for hunting trips. Any suggestions? Thanks

My day job is a camera operator for film and television. We see more and more of the GoPro cameras on jobs all the time, especially as a POV cam or for tight spaces.

All the GoPros do a fine job for their intended purpose. The HERO3 is the base model and was what we used for years before the new models came out. The HERO3+ Black edition has what we refer to in the industry as 4k resolution which is supposedly 4x more resolution than regular HD TV. But, do you have a TV to display that? Plus the files sizes are huge and you get less record time on card and your computer will take 4x longer to process the files.

Look around on eBay and get a used older model, play with it, learn to do cool mounts with it and if you like it you can sell it off and get another model.

The key to these little cameras is all about where and how you mount it and for that, GoPro has every possible mount you can imagine.

Plan on carrying a shIIIT ton of batteries! Battery life blows! If you are planning on videoing anything other than up close POV they are worthless. Up close action shots are great though.

GoPros are great but just remember that they don't have zoom and are pretty wide angle. It's nearly impossible to get critters if they are much farther than 50 yards away. Also, I keep mine in the plastic waterproof case and audio is pretty much nonexistent unless you are a few feet away. I've used my GoPro a lot for fishing and it works great! I've gotten some pretty wild underwater footage over the years. You can use your imagination for filming different with different attachments, etc. I have a waterproof camera that actually takes just as good 1080 video. I like it because it has a lot better audio plus telephoto lens. They both have their advantages and are a lot of fun!

Like jims, I have a GoPro, but use a point and shoot while hunting and scouting. I usually need zoom for filming through my scope, and it works just as well as the GoPro, so I just use it.

The GoPro for use is used for wakeboard, snowboarding , and such.

I have the Hero 3 and do like it.
