Slik vs Vortex?

I am looking for a lightweight compact tripod. I have looked into the Vortex High Country and the Slik Sprint Pro II GM. I am thinking about going with the Slik but have never used or seen one in person, only going off reviews and other recommendations. Anyone have feedback or would suggest another??
I use a swarovski 65mm.
Thanks.

I don't think there is any other quality
so essential to success of any kind as the
quality of perseverance. It overcomes
almost everything, even nature.

Slik all the way. I have looked at the Vortex several different times, and the quality just isn't the same as the Slik. I have the Slik Sprint Pro EZ tripod. It's under 19" and less than 2 pounds, so it is compact and sturdy. I have a Zen-Ray 64 oz. spotting scope, and the tripod supports it just fine. It isn't the tallest tripod in the world, but if you are looking for a compact, sturdy tripod, the Slik is the way to go. It is very high quality, and will run you about $90 with the 2-way tilt head. It is my second Slik tripod, and I have been very pleased with the quality and durability of both of them.

The Vortex High Country is wobbly and cheaply made. It is only covered by the warranty for 3 years, not lifetime. That's the downside. On the plus side, it is inexpensive and somewhat lightweight and somewhat functional. It should be easy to find a better lightweight tripod, but I haven't taken the time to do that. After 5 years the High Country still works, just not very sturdy. Most of the parts that have fallen off were not necessary anyway. My High Country Tripod came "free" with my first Vortex spotting scope, so I never bothered to send it in for repair. BTW, my Vortex spotting scopes are excellent and after having the 80mm for 3 years I bought a 60mm one. I use them both a lot and they are a great value; but I recommend that you spend a little more and get better tripod than the High Country. I also have a Vanguard carbon fiber tripod from Camofire that cost under $200 that is great, but a little more bulky and heavier.

I would take a good look at the Vortex Summit SS tripod... Its built WAY better than the High Country... And it is still under 2 pounds... Its a really good tripod.
