Stove Jack Questions

Can anyone tell me:

What problems can happen with a undersized stove pipe is installed thru a larger stove jack?

Exhample: a 4" stove pipe in an 5" stove jack on wall tent.

Exhample #2: 2 3/8" rolled Titanium foil stove pipe in a

3 1/8" stove jack on a ultralight Tee-Pee style shelter.

Would some kind of "sleeve" around the pipe where it contacts the stove jack be needed or desired? I see rain, heat loss, and support issues if this is not addressed. I'm interested to see how others have modified their gear in a simular situation.

Wind will blow it around and possibly rip/tear the jack from the movement and can cause you're pipe to separate filling the tent with smoke. Same thing can happen in a wind storm with too tight of a jack if the wind bellows the tent. I ordered the wrong size in a tent once, so bought a new proper sized jack from Cylinder Stoves and sewed it in over the "old" one using a stitch all. It's still going strong today.
