Pack suggestion

I am looking for a lightweight day pack that can comfortably carry and protect a rifle. I have a J34 and I love it but sometimes it's too much pack.

I have owned the Badlands Superday and the Sitka Flash 32 but was never really satisfied. Before last hunting season I bought the Eberlestock X2 and absolutely love it. It compresses down very small for small loads but also expands to carry out half of a boned out deer plus gear. The metal frame used carries heavy loads very well for a daypack. My only complaint about the pack is that there is no designated rifle/bow holder. The pack has molle webbing in a lot of places though. Eberlestock sells a rifle scabbard that can be attached at various points on the pack using this system. Overall it is the best daypack I've owned.

I have owned both the Badlands Superday, the Sitka Flash 32, and the Ebetlestock J34 but have never been satisfied. Before last hunting season I bought an Eberlestock X2 and I love it. It compresses down for really light loads but also expands enough to carry half of a boned out deer and a days worth of gear with ease. The metal frame used in the pack is pretty robust and carries heavy loads really well. My only complaint about the pack is the lack of a designated rifle/bow carrier. The pack has molle webbing in a lot of places and Enerlestock makes a gun and bow scabbard that can be incorporated into the pack pretty easily. Overall the X2 is a fantastic pack.

Eberlestock X1 is perfect for what you're looking for. The rifle scabbard is awesome, the pack weight is light, it can still haul smaller loads just in case, and the price is good. I love mine. I know there are others that carry a rifle, but who wants to have to strap it in and unstrap it all the time? You just slide it in on the X1. You take your pack off and you don't have to worry about the rifle flopping around and the scabbard protects it. I can't say enough about mine, I love it. Here's mine.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-22-14 AT 02:20PM (MST)[p]I would recommend giving the Horn Hunter Main Beam a look. It is a 2800 cu/in pack that has a narrow design keeping your profile to a minimum while you stalk. It will carry your rifle just fine and has plenty of small pockets and organizers inside to hold everything you need. It also has the Horn Hunter lifetime warranty on it so you never will have to worry about beating it up.
If you would like something smaller you could always give the G2 a look as well. It is an 1800 cu/in pack that would be great for a strictly day use pack.
